In 2007, TANN Corporation designed and installed a 20,000 SCFM RTO system for a adhesives company. The existing burner control utilized a micro-ratio valve. This style of valve has a lot of moving parts which tend to loosen overtime, cause binding, adjustment screws cause lag response. When this happens there are flame outs and issues with the gas to air ratio causing nuisance faults and excessive burner component wear. This was replaced with (2) direct coupled actuator and butterfly valves. These operate independently of each other physically but are linked in the PLC to provide the proper gas/air ratio. The set up in the PLC is typically 20 firing points for the range of the burner. These points can be adjusted from the HMI.
Design Advantages:
- Proper gas to air ratio throughout the full firing range of the burner
- Reduced energy cost
- Higher reliability
- Easy adjustment through PLC/HMI
- Improved burner cone life (due to proper gas/air ratio)
- Direct coupled actuator
- Lower maintenance, less moving parts
